TWO DAYS HEARING OF INQUIRY COMMITTEE OF THE PRESS COUNCIL OF INDIA AT HYDERABAD
At its sitting at Hyderabad on 14-15 March, 2017, the Inquiry Committee of the Press Council of India under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Mr. Justice C.K. Prasad considered 44 matters of which 30 cases were against the press and 6 cases were by the press .Remaining 8 cases were the references of paid news received from the Election Commission of India.
Out of total 44 cases against the press and by the press, the Inquiry Committee while recommending Censure in Three (3) newspapers for violation of Norms of Journalistic Conduct by them also recommended to dispose of/dismiss 18 cases. 23 matters were adjourned.
In-depth deliberations were held by the Inquiry Committee in the paid news cases. The Inquiry Committee also considered five (5) suo-motu cases taken by the Press Council of India viz publication of paid news by the Hindu, assault on photo journalist by Tata Group security guards, attack on Shri N. Nagarjuna Reddy, Journalist in Prakasam District (AP), murder of Shri S. KarthigaiSelvan, Journalist of Tamil Weekly magazine in Sattur, Tamil Nadu and arrest of Shri Kunal Shankar, Reporter, Frontline and restrictions on media in Hyderabad Central University.
