Providing skill development training to women would raise the employment potential of women workers. While addressing the Round Table conference on 'Women and Employablity' in Hyderabad today Sri B Dattatreya, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour & Employment, Government of India said that the NDA Government at the Centre is striving to give job security, wage security and social security to the workforce, particularly those who are toiling in the unorganised sector. The Union Minister said that Rural Medical College for Women is on the anvil. He revealed that talks with the Health Ministry are in progress in this regard. We are thinking of extending all the benefits of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to the women labourers of unorganised sector. We are holding meetings with the Union Ministers of Health, Women & Child Development Ministry and Human Resources Development on this issue. The Finance Minister has also given accord, the Minister added. 'NDA Government has enhanced the minimum wages for Agricultural labourers from Rs 232 to Rs 300'. As the number of women employees is on the rise, we are giving top priority to increase the safety and security of these workers. 93 per cent of workers are in the unorganised sector. He dwelt upon the enhancement of Maternity Leave form 12 weeks to 26 weeks. Codification of 43 Labour Laws into 4 categories; Provision of Creches to lactating mothers at the factories; Amendment to the Equal Remuneration Act; Provision of payment of wages through cheques.
Eminent persons participated in the event. Among them were Senior Scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Social Activists, Doctors, Lawyers and Women Enterpreneurs. They spoke about protection of womens' rights, Safety and Security at workplaces, Women empowerment, Mental and Physical health, Gender Equality, Bringing a change in the mindset of males towards the womenfolk. Technology must be utilised to benefit the women employees.The Round Table programme was organised by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India on the eve of International Women's Day.
