30th Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Lecture

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy has been conductingthe Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Lecture annually since 1984. Every yearan eminent speaker is invited to deliver the Lecture. The first speaker wasShri B.K. Nehru. The 30th Lecture was delivered today by Dr.Raghuram Rajan, Governor, Reserve Bank of India on the theme “Reforming India’sEconomic Institutions”. He first paid homage at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial. Hewas welcomed by the Director Smt. Aruna Bahuguna and introduced by Shri UmeshSharraf, Joint Director.
Dr. Raghuram Rajan stressed the role of governmentspending in reviving growth, especially because exports are not doing as wellas in the past. Our country is today facing number of challenges regardingimplementation of economic reforms and we are putting it back on the right pathby certain measures. We need to focus in implementation and improve capacity atevery level of the economy. We should concentrate on Village Infrastructure andNational Infrastructure as well to keep economic growth and check Inflationlevels.
He furtherstated, “There are certain aspects like Macro Stability, Human Capital,Business Environment, Taxation, Judiciary and Allocating Resources that play akey role in boosting our economy. We have to check the flaws in banking systemwhere a defaulter cannot escape with impunity. We need to constitute State Level Co-ordination Committees to monitorunregistered and illegal operators with the Chief Secretary, DGP and DistrictCollectors in the Committees. Today the new mantra in the country isTransparency at all levels.”
The Lecture was attended by Shri Anurag Sharma, DGP, Telangana, ShriPadma Raju, Vice Chancellor, Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University andother eminent delegates.
